The heatwave in Adelaide continues with temperatures in the mid-40’s (Celsius) during the day and between 30-35 degrees at night. The air conditioner has been running non-stop since we returned to Adelaide from Victor Harbor on Monday.
I walk Ari at 5am and then both Ari and Raffi at 7pm. The air temperature is hot even in the shade by the water features in the Adelaide Parklands. I avoid physical activity (apart from the gym), I drink lots of water, and we live with air-conditioning.
Heatwaves in Australia are becoming more frequent, are increasing in intensity and are lasting longer. It is only to be expected since greenhouse gases continue to accumulate in the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels, more heat is trapped in the lower atmosphere. This then increases the likelihood that hot weather will occur and that heatwaves will become longer and more intense.
